The Peninsula School

The Peninsula School is a student initiated, community oriented, independent free school that sources creativity from the individual through a trans-disciplinary curriculum in contemporary art and design, while exploring an understanding of their relevance and contribution to society.
Founded on January 17, 2013, the Peninsula School is housed in the middle gallery of the Institute of Contemporary Art at Maine College of Art & Design and will meet on Thursdays from 1:00 to 2:00pm beginning on January 31. The programing, determined from the input of the curriculum committee will consist of lectures, discussions, critiques, video viewings and readings. The subject matter and lessons will shift as need is determined based upon needs of the constituency. All are welcome to attend every Peninsula School event. Curriculum includes: studying artwork by Alex Da Corte, Ted Gahl, Elizabeth Atterbury, and Helen Marten; images and a press release for Elad Lassry’s performance, Untitled (Presence), at the Kitchen; and a live taping of the hit podcast, N-Pilar, staring Pilar Nadal and Anne Buckwalter; and many more artists will be learned from along the way.
