Alumni Grant & Residencies

2021 COVID-19 Update

Due to safety concerns and complications regarding the coronavirus we made the decision last year to defer the 2020 residency programs to 2021. The means that the applicants who were accepted in 2020 will be attending during the 2021 residency season, and we will not be holding an open call for the residency programs this year.

If you are interested in attending one of MECA&D's residency programs, please check back again for applications in January 2022!

The Belvedere Fund is accepting grant applications this year starting in January 2021.  Please see more information below.

If you have any questions about the residency or grant programs please reach out to Isabelle Maschal O’Donnell, Alumni Relations & Events Coordinator at alums@meca.edu.

Residencies

Baie Ste Marie Artist & Family Residency

The family of Barbara Rita Jenny (MFA '02) established the MECA&D Baie Ste Marie Artist & Family Residency in 2008.  Located in New Edinburgh, Nova Scotia, the Baie Ste Marie Residency is open to Maine College of Art & Design degree-holding alumni, current faculty, and staff.  This family friendly residency is distinguished not only by its incomparable location on the rugged Atlantic Coast of Canada, but because residents may bring their families to stay in the large house on-site. Travel support for selected residents provided by a generous grant from the Robert J. Jenny Memorial Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.

Pace House Residency

Artist Stephen Pace and his wife, Palmina, gave their Indian Point home and studio overlooking Stonington Harbor to Maine College of Art & Design in 2007 to be used as an artist residency and gallery.  We are pleased to be able to offer Maine College of Art & Design degree-holding alumni, faculty, and staff family friendly residency opportunities during the spring, summer, and fall months at the Pace House. Stipends of $750 will be awarded to mid-career artists at the discretion of the jury.

Alumni Residency at MECA&D

The Alumni Residency at MECA&D is designed to bring a small group of alumni back to Maine each summer to return to the MECA&D studios for four weeks in July and engage in intensive on-campus experiences while renewing their ties to the College.

EMMA Collaboration

The EMMA Collaboration brings 100 renowned artists and craftspeople together from around the world to create art in the Boreal Forest of Northern Saskatchewan, Canada, a place where form and function collide. One applicant is selected to represent MECA&D at the Emma Collaboration.

Monson Arts Residency

The Monson Artists' Residency and arts center brings 10 residents to the edge of Maine’s North Woods. One applicant from MECA&D is selected to attend each season and is awarded a $1,000 stipend.
