The Body Eclectic: Selections from the RBC Dain Rauscher Collection

The Institute of Contemporary Art at Maine College of Art & Design opens “The Body Eclectic: Selections from the RBC Dain Rauscher Collection” on February 23 with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
Comprised of approximately 400 works of art, the RBC Dain Rauscher collection reflects contemporary society with the human figure as its focus. The collection, which was started by RBC Dain chairman Irv Weiser, ranges from serious to whimsical, from realistic to abstract and showcases the works of both emerging and established artists. The 38 works on exhibit at the ICA at MECA&D are a representation of the larger collection and includes the artists Chuck Close, Dawoud Bey, Jim Dine, Nan Goldin, Roy Lichtenstein, Elizabeth Peyton and Carrie Mae Weems.
On February 23, photographer Dawoud Bey will give an artist talk at 5 p.m., followed by an opening reception at 6 p.m. On March 1, Toby Kamps, Director of the ICA at MECA&D, will host a tea and tour. All events, including admission to the ICA at MECA&D, are free and open to the public.
As part of its commitment to community, the ICA offers educational programming for local elementary school children. The Adventures in Art program brings youth into the galleries to learn more about the current exhibit and create their own artwork in response. This work, in the form of photography, will hang in the Long Hall Gallery of the Porteous Building from April 7 to 14.

The exhibition runs from February 23 to April 16, 2006. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays until 7 p.m. The ICA at MECA&D is located at 522 Congress Street in the arts district of Portland.
