Congratulations to graduating senior Baxter Koziol (BFA ‘17, Painting) for his acceptance into the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture! Baxter is one of 65 participants chosen to attend this intensive nine-week summer residency program from a pool of 2,000 applicants.
Skowhegan was established for emerging visual artists 1946. Skowhegan seeks each year to bring together a diverse group of individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to artmaking and inquiry, creating the most stimulating and rigorous environment possible for a concentrated period of artistic creation, interaction and growth.
Located on a historic 350 acre farm in rural Maine, Skowhegan brings together artists working in every media, traditional and new, each summer. Participants come to Skowhegan from all over the world and many different backgrounds. Because the program focuses on process and experimentation, participants are encouraged to come prepared to work without a preconceived agenda or schedule. The program requires participants to commit to being in residence for the full nine-week session from mid-June to mid-August, and absences from the program to fulfill other professional commitments are not permitted. All participants, faculty, and staff live and work on campus and are provided with studio space and technical support for their work. The artistic dialogue continues around the clock.
