Maine College of Art & Design's Continuing Studies Program is excited to announce that Ashley Cleek, proud former instructor and graduate of the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, will be teaching the upcoming March intensive, Salt: Intro to Podcasting.
PORTLAND, Maine - Ashley Cleek is an award-winning reporter and podcast producer whose stories air on National Public Radio, PRI’s The World, BBC, Latino USA, The Nation, Reveal, the Center for Investigative Reporting, and Al Jazeera America. She’s launched narrative projects with Endeavor Audio, Neon Hum Media, and Midroll / Stitcher.
Cleek is currently an editor at Vice Audio. Her work has earned an Edward R. Murrow award, a Magnum Foundation grant, National Associated Press awards, an ABBY award, and a grant from IRE / FIRE (Freelance Investigative Reporters and Editors) for a project on immigration law and minors. She’s reported stories in Turkey, India, Ukraine, and Russia, and across the U.S.
In this hands-on workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of podcasting and audio storytelling, including how to identify and collect the elements of a compelling story. Students will learn how to report with digital recorders and how to edit using professional audio editing software and a digital audio workstation (DAW). At the end of the five day intensive, students will have produced a sound-rich audio postcard enriched with a greater appreciation for the unique qualities of audio storytelling.
This five-day intensive runs each week-day from 9am – 4pm, March 9, 2020 – March 13, 2020. Space is limited and the registration deadline is February 26, 2020.
