The Brick Store Museum’s exhibition, Visual Storytelling: Celebrating Maine Illustrators, opened Friday, March 20, 2015 in Kennebunk, ME. The exhibit not only displayed the history of illustration, but featured the artwork of illustrators, artists, and cartoonists living in Maine today. The illustrated image has become a significant part of our culture and captured the imaginations of generations.
Illustrators who took part in the exhibit included MECA&D faculty members Adjunct Illustration Instructor Stephen Costanza, Adjunct Illustration instructor Daniel Minter, and Assistant Professor of Illustration Scott Nash, as well as MECA&D alumni Jada Fitch (attended) '06. Also exhibited were artists Dahlov Ipcar, Ashley Bryan, Chris van Dusen, Wade Zahares, and Melissa Sweet among others. Each artist was been invited to share three to five pieces of work, which included children’s books, political cartoons, comic books, and natural history illustration
Visitors were also invited to create their own art inside the gallery – right on the wall! Ongoing illustrator workshops featured specialized presentations by the artists. Visual Storytelling was sponsored by the Captain Lord Mansion, the Captain Jefferds Inn, and Hurlbutt Designs and ran through Sept. 27, 2015.
