On Demand Videos

View workshops from our March and April 2021 Accepted Student Days:

Bob Crewe Program in Art and Music

Steve Drown, Coordinator of the Bob Crewe Program in Art and Music and assistant professor of Music, leads a 30-minute discussion covering the varied use of the facilities and course offerings of the music program at MECA&D. It’s not just for music minors and those taking music courses! You'll learn about: access to practice rooms, studio use, available instruments, and general support for all things music and sound-related. The music minor will also be introduced to students who may consider that option.

Photography: Motion Capture/Still Life

Join Justin Kirchoff, program chair of the MECA&D Photography department, for a demo on capturing split-second images.  Photography's ability to freeze time is one of its most distinctive attributes that differentiates the still image from all of the other mediums. Historically, Eadweard Muybridge's motion studies and Herald "Doc" Edgerton split second images of milk drops provided a way of seeing "time" that had never been witnessed before. In this demonstration we will pop a balloon of water and attempt to freeze the water and latex in a way the naked eye can not.

Animation & Game Art Discussion

Join Adam Fisher, professional animator and chair of the Animation and Game Art program, for a round table hang-out session with current students. View the Animation recording here (Passcode: RVXC1jr.)

Graphic Design: RISO printing

See what possibilities are for printing zines, distributing design, and fast printing with Charles Melcher from MECA&D's Graphic Design department. He'll show you what a RISO machine is, what it can do, and examples of work made on a machine you'll have access to as a MECA&D student.

Alternative Sketching for Illustration

Michael Connor, from our Illustration department at MECA&D, will lead this demo/workshop exploring alternative approaches to sketching, with examples of works-in-progress, and finished pieces. Michael will focus on collage as a sketch tool, with a demo that students can follow along with at home (so long as they've got paper, an old magazine/book/newspaper, glue and favorite drawing tools). View the Illustration recording here.

Get to Know Textile + Fashion Design

Alysha Kupferer, chair of the Textile + Fashion Design program at MECA&D, gives a tour of the extensive textile and fashion studios, and current students will show off their current collections. View the Textile + Fashion recording here.

An Ecology of Painting

Join Jessica Parker Foley, adjunct professor in the MECA&D Painting department, for an interactive mini-lecture that will frame painting as a series of relationships between component pieces. We will talk about the ways in which painting has been framed through time, and how using an ecological model to understand an artwork can inform our painting practice. Students will gain the skills to analyze one of their own paintings using this method, and will walk away with skills to implement this strategy in their next artwork. View the Painting chat recording here.
