“Abstract painting is a process that asks questions about ideas and subjects without overt pictorial commentary. It has long been a metaphor for deep philosophical investigation and emotional explorations. As an abstract painter, my imagery exists outside of a narrative or didactic framework, and, as a result, I find inspiration in questions that address the confluence of belief systems, the role of spirituality in art, and the possibility of creating a transcendent object. My current project in the studio is inspired by the intersection of early esoteric philosophies, and early advances in the sciences, when the mysteries of creation and existence were possibly more illusive than they are now. The documents that the artists and scientists left behind offer up a fresh sense that magic and mystery are real, and the results of their experiments can inspire our own curiosity and sense of awe.”
