This exhibition assembles three contemporary art curators: Alison Ferris, Bowdoin College Museum of Art; Cindy Meyers Foley, Institute of Contemporary Art at Maine College of Art & Design; and Lisa Tung, Massachusetts College of Art Gallery to showcase work by a range of contemporary artists. The exhibition provides the curators with a rare opportunity to feature compelling work outside of the parameters of a thematic exhibition. These three perspectives provide a snapshot of contemporary art today while also exploring the creative and collaborative nature of curating. The show opens March 13 and continues through April 25. The opening reception is March 18 from 5 to 7 p.m.
At 6 p.m. on March 19, artist Suzanne Bocanegra will deliver a visiting artist lecture. Suzanne Bocanegra’s work triggers a chain of developments that the artist follows absolutely and logically, picking apart and analyzing her subject, literally breaking up a whole into its component parts, examining its elements and their relations and leaping to conclusions that logic cannot reach, arriving at that which is not known.
In related activities, the Long Hall Gallery in the Porteous building will feature an exhibition of work by elementary school children from April 15 to 21. Adventures in Art is the ICA’s contemporary art education program for local youth. The student exhibition features work inspired by the exhibition, Curators' Intuition. All ICA exhibitions and programs are free and open to the public.
