Dear All,
I am writing to reinforce the letter signed by many college and university presidents six years ago urging our President and Congress to take immediate action on gun control. While reasonable gun safety legislation will not prevent every future gun death, it will go a long way towards decreasing gun violence.
The time has long since passed for silence on the issue of reasonable and rational gun safety legislation. I stand with my fellow college and university leaders in urging our nation’s policy leaders to take thoughtful and urgent action to ensure that current and future generations may live and learn in a country free from the threat of gun violence.
At this time, I want to assure all future MECA&D students that all peaceful, responsible protests against gun violence will not negatively impact decisions on admission to Maine College of Art & Design. We applaud the bravery that it takes to speak out against violence, and believe that peaceful protest and artistic expression can be empowering and impactful responses to injustice.
