Due to safety concerns and complications regarding the coronavirus we made the decision last year to defer the 2020 residency programs to 2021. The means that the applicants who were accepted in 2020 will be attending during the 2021 residency season, and we will not be holding an open call for the residency programs this year.

If you are interested in attending one of MECA&D's residency programs, please check back again for applications in January 2022!

The Alumni Residency at MECA&D is designed to bring degree-holding alumni back to the College each summer for four weeks in July to re-engage in intensive on-campus experiences in conjunction with the MFA Summer Intensive.

Eligibility

Applicants must be graduates from the BFA, MFA, or MAT Programs at Maine College of Art & Design. For BFA alumni, in particular, these four weeks at MECA&D offer an ideal opportunity to experience graduate school. Priority is given to individual artists rather than groups or collectives.

Non graduated alums, SALT graduates, Post Baccalaureate graduates, Continuing Studies faculty and students are ineligible to apply.

About the Residency

Alumni Residents receive access to one of the MECA&D studios for the length of the residency. If interested in additional access, residents are responsible for associated studio lab fees ($85-$325).

Learning Opportunities
MFA Alumni Residents receive at least one studio visit from a MFA Visiting Artist during the course of the residency. Alumni will be invited to participate in some classroom discussions and activities.

Residents' participation in MFA studio visits, critiques, and classes are at the discretion of the faculty and contingent upon availability, with priority given to current MFA students.
Housing Options
Alumni Residents may decide to stay in MECA&D housing (pending availability). On-campus housing is available for a fee.

Team Residency

Priority is given to individual artist applications rather than groups or collectives.

If more than one person is applying for the residency, the group should select a lead contact person. The lead contact person should submit a single application, a combined statement of purpose for the entire group, and is responsible for including all group members’ documents (resume, work samples, etc) into the application.

Please use the Alumni Residency at MECA&D TEAM Application to apply as a group.

Residencies will be determined based on the quality of work submitted, evidence that the applicant’s career will benefit from the residency, that the nature and span of proposed projects fit within the space and time limitations of the residency, that the proposed projects will fit within the scope of the MFA program and that the applicant is able to work independently and responsibly.
