Every two years, the EMMA Collaboration brings 100 renowned artists and craftspeople together from around the world to create art in in the Boreal Forest of Northern Saskatchewan, Canada, a place where form and function collide. One alumni applicant is selected to represent Maine College of Art & Design at the Emma Collaboration, which funds the conference cost. The 2018 artist is Jude Valentine '78.
A long-time resident of Maine, Jude Valentine completed her BFA at the Maine College of Art & Design and received an MFA in visual art from Vermont College of Fine Art. She has received numerous awards for her work including a Jerome Foundation Fellowship, several Special Opportunity Stipends through the New York Foundation for the Arts, artist in residency grants through the New York Council on the Arts, and National Park Service, and an Individual Grant Award from Cornell University Council of Creative Arts.
The selection committee was comprised of alum and past EMMA participant, Jill Dalton '99, and Maine College of Art & Design Alum John Huckins '12.
