Claude Caswell earned his BA from Bowdoin College, his MA from Southern Illinois University and his Ph.D. from the University of New Hampshire. He has taught at MECA&D for 23 years and has served as the coordinator of the Writing Minor and the Outing Club faculty mentor. has been elected faculty Commencement speaker for many years in a row, by student popular demand.

• Recipient of the 1998 Seacoast Writing Association’s First Prize for Nonfiction Author of a chapter entitled “Paris: City of Brothelly Love” in the book French Connections: Hemingway and Fitzgerald Abroad (St. Martin’s Press).

Extracurricular
Claude grew up on a farm in Gray, Maine, the fifth child of six, in a house with no indoor plumbing and a single woodstove. He attended Bowdoin College on a full scholarship.
