Margo Halverson has taught at MECA&D for over 20 years. Her love of words, together with the narrative power of the photographic image, led her to the world of typography and graphic design. She earned BFA and MFA degrees from Arizona State University, where she studied with graphic designer Rob Roy Kelly. Margo and her husband, Charles Melcher, Program Chair and Professor of Graphic Design at MECA&D, operate Alice Design Communication, an award‐winning graphic design studio. Their clients include Shelburne Museum, MIT Press, Portland Color, Monaghan Woodworks, Bates College Museum of Art, and Portland Society of Architects, among others. In 2013, Charles and Margo led a collaboration of internationally known professional graphic designers, MECA&D design faculty and MECA&D Graphic Design majors in a charrette that resulted in the creation of MECA&D’s current logo.
