Sue Nutty's research interests include issues of patronage and art collecting in 19th century America and England, as well as Victorian art, women artists and representations of women, and the artists J.M.W. Turner and Whistler. She earned her BA from the University of Cincinnati and her MA and Ph.D. in art history from the University of Delaware.

Prior to moving to Maine, she lived and taught in London, cultivating her Anglophilia.
