LK Weiss ’11

LK describes the coast of Maine as her “passion, inspiration and obsession.”

It is no surprise that LK Weiss titled her business identity “The Portland Designer.” The co‐founder of Bowline Company, which manufactures handmade unisex bow ties, she is also an illustrator, freelance graphic designer and the founder of Jack Tar 207, a “body‐project visibility project” that also offers product photography. Spurred by LK's distaste for the homogenous portrayal of American beauty in blogs and on Pinterest boards, Jack Tar 207 broadened society’s conception of what is typically considered “attractive” in the advertising world by using models of all shapes, sizes, genders, races and personal style. The name Jack Tar is slang for “a salty sailor” and the project has garnered recognition from the Huffington Post and MaineToday Media.

LK’s bow ties were recently featured in a short video by Knack Factory media company. Her design clients L.L. Bean, Margan Stanley, Sea Bags, angela adams, Saint Harridan, Maine Community Foundation and others. A fifth generation Mainer, Lisa describes the coast of Maine as her “passion, inspiration and obsession.”
