Maine College of Art & Design Inclement Weather Protocol
Maine College of Art & Design is committed to maintaining normal operations regardless of weather conditions whenever possible. However, there may be times when extreme weather conditions warrant an adjustment to the normal schedule of operations, such as canceling classes, closing the College, or delaying its opening.
In the event of such circumstances, an official announcement will be sent out over the College’s text notification system and shared with key radio and television stations. Announcements will also be posted online at www.meca.edu, as well as on the College’s social media outlets. A message will also be left on the College’s phone system, accessible at (207) 775-3052, option 5.
Students, faculty, and staff are strongly encouraged to sign up for the College’s text notification system here: https://dev.meca.edu/student-life/campus-resources/emergency-notifications/.
For an overnight weather-related event, the announcement will be made by 6:00 AM. When a weather event is forecast, students, faculty and staff are asked to keep an eye out for closing information.
Essential Operations
During an announced closing, cancellation or delayed opening, the following offices are considered essential functions of the College and will remain operational on a limited basis:

Facilities. At least one member of the Facilities team will be on campus on days when the College is closed due to inclement weather.

On snow days or other days when the College is closed due to inclement weather conditions, staff from the Office of Student Life will be available via email during normal business hours at studentlife@meca.edu. Resident Assistants and live-in staff will offer community activities in the residence halls. In the event of an emergency, please call the Main MECA&D phone line per College policy (207-775-3052).
Weekend Inclement Weather
When extreme weather conditions occur over the weekend, the impact on College operations is minimal. Facilities and Security will maintain their normal weekend presence on campus. The MECA&D Café will maintain its normal weekend schedule. If weather conditions warrant a change to the Library hours, the Director will send an email to all students announcing the updated hours. Students will continue to have 24/7 access to studios.
